TA Courses in Mathematics 2024

This course will show you how to support learners who are operating in Pre-level 1/ level 1 of the NZC and need 1-1 guidance. This course will be based on Numicon Breaking Barriers. You will learn how to use this programme and use equipment that encourages discovery, understanding and application of maths in everyday life. You will increase your own knowledge of mathematics. This course is suitable for a TA who is beginning their journey in working with students with High Learning Needs and those wanting to deepen their knowledge. There are two course options. This course is based on the Numicon Intervention Programme or Numicon Big Ideas. These programmes enable students to be included in a classroom lesson with understanding. You will learn about the barriers students have in their learning and how to overcome or work with them, and how to follow a learning programme to move these students beyond NZC Levels 1 and 2/Phase 1 and early 2. This course is suitable for a TA who is beginning their journey in working with students who are struggling learners and those wanting to deepen their knowledge. There are three course options. This course will include information on how to teach and support students with High Learning Needs, autism, dyscalculia, and ADHD within NZC Level 1/Phase 1. You will learn how to plan a well-designed and engaging lesson for your learner(s), so they feel included in their classroom. You will also upskill your own knowledge of maths.  Choose the delivery format that meets your needs:

 

  Courses online – full day and one follow-up

  Courses online – three sessions

  Course in person and one follow-up

  Course in person – three sessions – only local to you


Online Courses - Full Day

Online sessions start at 9.15am via zoom and continue through to 2.45pm with brain breaks and intervals spread throughout. You will then have two half hour follow up sessions with your Advisor to support you in the classroom with your student(s).

Each participant will receive handouts sent by email.

A complimentary sample pack of Numicon equipment will be sent to you by courier.  Purchases are not covered by the Ministry funding.

Online Courses - 3 Part Sessions

This style of learning will take place over zoom so that you can access the course from anywhere. The course will be spread over 3 sessions, each being 2 hours long. Check the course information to see if it is 3 morning sessions (9:15 am-11:15 am) or if it is 3 afternoon sessions (12.45 pm - 2.45 pm)  

Each participant will receive handouts sent by email.

A complimentary sample pack of Numicon equipment will be sent to you by courier.  Purchases are not covered by the Ministry funding.


In-person Courses/Blended

These courses are regional based. Following the course, you will be offered a zoom meeting to follow up where you can ask questions, share your experiences so far, or ask for more guidance. They are often held at schools who volunteer to host.   

Courses start at 9 am and finish at 3 pm.

3 - You must attend every event in the course you have registered for.  (We only receive payment on the completion of the entire course.)

4 - The closing date for every course is 5 working days before the course begins.

5 - Handouts and resources will be couriered to the address you provide for online courses.
